These go back to the early Spit factory options. Stage I was the lesser of the upgrades but Stage II was the one people went for. It included the upgraded cam, 4-2-1 exhaust header and dual DCOE Webe

Incidentally, does anyone have a factory tuned Stage 2 Spitfire which has the "S2" badge still in place (presumably on the bootlid)? I've seen NOS examples of the badges, but I've yet to find one on

I believe that the terminology of "Stage I, II, III, IV" is not unique to the Spitfire, but is common across much engine tuning. Each stage I think does refer to a specific level of re-work, but I'm
