Most likely dirt or grit on the bendix drive. Next time it happens, just rock the car in 4th gear, it will pop out. I have this problem more then I like due to the 5 speed and the bendix hanging out

I've always used a spray type of dry lubricant on these. Silicone, graphite, or molydemum. Have never had any long term success with oil or grease on these type of inertia drives. Return spring is pr
