I was told you should turn the engine over with the plugs out to make sure you have oil psi, allso put some oil in the oil cooler hose inlet at the block to help it prime.

My own experiences and thoughts are that the engine is starved of oil at this point, and is very unhappy that way, even with all sorts of startup lubes gobed on the cam and such. So, I do the follow
