I have once again got just a faint trace of play at the steering wheel. Last time this occurred, I traced it to a loose clamp where the steering column clamps onto the splines that go into the rack.

Wait to hear from Frank C on this one Chuck. He's real adament about the connection between steering column and rack. Perhaps he had an incident? The shimming idea sounds particularly bad to me, tho.

Peter, et al, The collapsable columms have a noticably longer pinion (hence longer spines and more hence more grip, and if I remember correctly there is a flat on one side as well. Much harder to get
