yes the later shaft is larger and has more splines. actual count? i'm uncertain as i have that shaft (larger one) in my bugeye right now. somehow i remember shortening the shaft for my car too. (the

Bugeyes (side curtain cars) all had a 5/8 shaft with course splines. 65-67 had a 3/4 shaft with fine splines 68-69 went back to a 5/8 shaft but with fine splines. Midgets continued to change at least

The whole shaft will fit in any tube up until they went to the collapsable column in 68. But you can even replace the later columns too. I have a 65 Sprite column in a 73 Midget. I did the same to a
