Frank, I know this works on the earlier wheels but not sure on the newer ones. The method I have always used is to sit in the car and get your knees behind the wheel so they can apply upward pressure

When I pulled mine to put a wheel from a '72 on a few months ago, I loosened (but didn't remove) the bolt, and then used my knees to push the wheel to me, and rapped on the column end with a hammer.
