I am writing about oil preference and use. Most reference s and MG manuals say that SAE 20W/ 50W is the required type of engine oil for the MGB. I live in the tropics and it never gets really "cold"

The factory recommended multi-grade for all climates. 20W/50 or thereabouts for 'temperate' climates and above going down to 10W/40 or thereabouts for cold and 5W/20 for even colder. It's getting har

Yes, I used to use straight 40W and even 50W in my first MGB. That was well over twenty five years or so ago when I was a bit skeptic of the new modern multi-viscosity oils. I don't see any problem i

Well, lessee, in an overdrive friction clutch, isn't the oil under shear forces? And the oil is at high pressure in the overdrive when it's engaged. Isn't that good? I've been using 20W-50 in MGB ove

It's not that the multi-grade viscosity enhancers are in themselves bad -- it's that they are unnecessary. As are the detergent additives. And my main point was that both of these break down long bef
