The shiny spots are hard spots in the cast iron caused by overheating and cooling cycles. Cummins cylinder liners used to do the same thing if you really overheated them. I think the pulsations are

Are "hard spots" real hard? Doesn't it require grinding the surface? My OEM rotors only have 0.075 left. (0.005 wear). Doesn't seem like much..!.?.. Oh well, I have learned a lot of good stuff that

Yep...those shiny spots are harder than the dull metal and the pad scuff across them differently and creates a vibration. The hardness is no where near as deep in the metal as the shiny spot is wide

your aproch will work but we usa a high sped air drill with metal buffing pad ....directional finish....it leaves a little bit smoother surface. after this they must be washed in hot soapy water. be

Hard spots can be really hard! Many times they can be machined with a lathe tool, but more often they require grinding. Lots of shops don't have the capability of grinding rotors, (I am not referrin

Thanks for the information Doc. I plan on being easier on the brakes now see that their limits are less than I expected. The last thing I did before mounting them was wipe them off with MEK -- twice.
