Repair it - you can get thread repair kits. Helicoil is probably the best-known brand. The kit usually has a drill, a tap, an insertion tool & a packet of repair coils. They're easy to use. Regards,

Keep in mind that the sealing block is aluminum, rather than the iron of the rest of the block. 20 ft-lbs is not excessive for Al. Probably some DPO replaced the pan gasket and didn't bother to use a
