I have been thinking about the Stromberg carbs that were fitted to the TR4 and TR4A models. Does anyone know at which commission number Strombergs began to be fitted on the TR4's? At which commission

The TR4 was upgraded to Strombergs in 1963 at CT20877. So I presume at least that your engine is mid 63. It is not unusual to have a tub that is earlier, or even later that the engine. Bob Roberts T

Tony, not strange. Reason for going to ZS's was economics. SU's were made by a Triumph rival, who was charging too much per unit. ZS's could be obtained at a more reasonable price. (Both carbs work o

Point of fact, that supplier of ZS was, for all practical purposes, Leyland-Triumph itself. It was they who designed the carburetor and then went to Zenith to get it manufactured. SU at the time was
