I have seen these installed both ways on T-types. My gasket has a metal mesh on one side and plain asbestos on the other. Which side goes against the cylinder head? regards John Swanland Melbourne Au

The shiny (metal) side of an exhaust gasket always goes toward the exhaust manifold and away from the head. This accommodates the greater expansion rate of the less massive exhaust manifold. -Vince
