First, make sure the points are opening wide enough. .012 - .014 is ideal. I've seen many sets of points close up - usually due to wear on the rubbing block. If that doesn't do it, try a new coil. Ch

I still think it's an ignition or electrical problem. Make sure the battery isn't failing or you have poor connections at the battery cables. A richer mixture, as when under load, is harder to ignit

Just to eliminate it as a suspect, I would check that the actual position of the choke mechanism on the carb matches the knob setting in the car. I would also wonder if the air filter has become near
