Gary Breeback SEZ - Not to sound flip, but if he's doing a lot of highway driving, he's got the wrong car. (If he wants a highway car that looks like a T-series, didn't some company make a fake TD (o

Yes, a conversion to an MGA set of diff gears can achieve the desired results. It isn't a simple swap, but requires some engineering talent and tools to accomplish, plus specialized knowledge. Univer

I respectfully disagree. My '57 MGA is a great highway car. It has been to both coasts and into Canada, all under its own power. The ride is great, with every definition of great considered. -- Bob

Listen to Lew: He's correct about overgearing these cars. A stock TD only has 54 HP and NO airdynamics. It's like pushing a barn door. The TF 1500 came with 63 BHP, 4.875 rear and a top end of about

I do not want to start a big discussion of this but I have no complaints with my MGAs on the highways. They have no problems keeping up with traffic and are very close to my 70 B on the highway. The

I'm the only club member here that still has the stock rear end in his TD. I regularly cruise at 60 mph, no problem. The engine sounds pretty good at that speed, and it's willing to go faster. How mu

Stock TD rear gearing was 5.125 running on Dunlop 5.50x15 tires. Today's tires that properly fit the TD's narrow wheels, both radial and bias-ply, have smaller circumference. That makes the revs per

I have a Stage 2 TD with a 4.875 rear gears. I don't know how much wind you guys have, or hills, but there has been many occasions when the engine will barely pull 60 MPH against a strong head wind.
