My recollection is that a very thin cloth/vinyl material was glued to the frame. I would imagine it would be difficult to remove and impossible to replace without taking the windscreen and seal out.

While the have the same frames, the Mk1 Spits have a painted frame with no vinyl. Unless you are concerned about originality, consider removing the vinyl and just painting the frame. Much less hassl
