Well,, my TR3 engine that hasn't run much since the rebuild, has problems,, I had the carbs rebuilt, and it ran GREAT (for a while), in the garage. It does have some LOUD lifter noise and I have set

I checked the cam timing yesterday, put my dial indicator on the top of the rocker, had the proper lift on intake and exhast on the #1 cyl. and they were right on time. And, the carb pistons do slid

The black plugs would indicate to me that perhaps, rather than improper firing, there's too much fuel in the combustion chamber. I wonder, when you had your carbs rebuilt, if the floats were properly

Here's a couple. The total engine timing at full advance should be 33-34 degrees, not 20. Could possibly be a grunge build up or bad spring keeping your distributor mechanical advance from working t
