mine does the same thing so i was wondering about too, (cork gasget too short to fit in groove on valve cover) Do I need to soak the cork valve gasket in oil or something before using it? My shop man

Don't soak it, it should be impervious anyway. A tip: Stick the gasket onto the rocker cover with some blu tak (I don't know if you call it that over there,) or some double sided tape, clean the head
