I don't know if this is the problem or not but there's definitly a front side and a back side to the lower seal. In fact the stuff from one of the suppliers (TRF I think) has the word REAR embossed

I've tried it both ways. If you put it in just tight enough so the edge lays down on the scuttle (some waves off the car, but not much), then eventually it will shrink and tear at the ends. Seems to
