I was driving around with a friend the other day in my Stag with the TR6 engine and he looks over at the dash and says, your tach's not right. This friend has previously owned a TR4 and now a Porsche

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It means (if it's electric) that you have a tach designed to recieve 8 pulses per revolution instead of the six your getting. It also me

Easiest way to check is to hook up a tach/dwell meter to one of the spark plug wires, have a partner rev the engine up and hold it steady. It is then easy to check to see how far your tach is off. Th

The answer may be that the gearing in the TR6 distributor is different than the Stag. The trick would be matching the gearing, perhaps through an inline gear reduction unit. An acquaintance of mine h

Replace it with TR6 tach and you'll be fine. (sorry for the second response) -- Lenny Seidman Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, USA email: lseidman@erols.com

Hmm... I hadn't thought of that. I don't know about the Stag, but assumed it had a mechanical tachometer, like the one in the TR6. If it is electric, Barry's diagnosis is right on! --ken -- Kenneth B

The Stag tach is for an 8 cylinder engine while the TR6 engine is 6 cylinders. Cobra kit builders use Stag tachs because they look British (and are!) and will work with american V8 engines. -- Lenny

What year stag do you have? You are right, about the size. I forgot the tach and speedo are different sizes in the TR6 and Stag, but all other guages are the same size. I took out the clock in my sta

Larry; the problem is your're only getting 6/8ths of the correct reading. The stag tach is calibrated for 8 cyl..Your only feeding it 6/8 of the revs per min that it was set for. Don't panic! If it's

Lawrence, I would assume the 73 tach is very similar to the one in my 71 Stag, but I may be wrong. If it is the same, 1) it is electric, and 2) there is a calibration screw on the back of the case th

Lawrence, If the Stag has an electronic Tach then the tach is probably reading 3/4 of the correct reading. The reason is simple: the tach was calibrated for an 8 cylinder engine. You have a TR6 motor

On my Stag, the tach often sticks at around 3500. It almost never goes past 4000, even the engine is obviously rev'ed much higher. With the stainless exhaust, I just normally shift by sound and when
