- I did this conversion on my '75 MGB about a 8 years ago (swithched back to the lever arms since) Yes, you do need some type of Oil in there to lubricate them. I used motor oil.

- My car is a '75. I lowered it by using shorter springs. As a result, the shock had only about 1/2 inch of compression travel. So, when braking hard they would bottom out so harshly that they'd bounce

- Interesting. My car is pretty low (chrome bumper), but I don't seem to have any problems with insufficient travel or bottom-out. Of course, as we've said earlier, the front is so darn stiff right now
