The tach probably needs a better ground connection. The stock grounding for the tach is weak. Reach under there and tighten the little nuts with your hand, especially the one with the wire under it.

Yes, weak tach ground. Derf has a good plan but a better one is to run a new good ground from the spade terminal on the housing to a ground.(they must have known something cause they put that spade l
