Good evening list... Well, I changed the gear oil last evening, and filled it up with the Redline oil. Wow, that stuff smells foul... Along with some other minor items, I was ready to install a therm

I have read in several places that you can omit the thermostat, but you must then install a 'blanking sleeve'. So either way you need to get in there.. I'd go with the thermostat....quicker warmup. A

A blanking sleeve can simply be an old thermostat with the centre Unless it is a racecar, use a thermostat. Mike must to I the

My 1275 thermostat is very easy to replace; the procedure is as you outline. Do you have a 1500? In any event, another "truth about thermostats" is that the cheap ones don't last very long in my exp

Charles, the engineer types on the list say that it will perhaps run hotter without a stat to slow the coolant flow. Robert Houston ..thermodynamically challanged.

Yes, you should at least have an old housing with the valve ripped out of it to meter the flow of fluid. Otherwise it won't stay in the radiator log enough to cool down or stay in the block long enou

What is this based on? I don't think it's true for the flow rates that can be obtained in these engines. In fact, I'm not sure it's ture at any flow rate, given a closed system. But, I can be convinc

I don't believe this is the reason. From what I recall, the resultant coolant flow leaves a hot spot above cylinder #4 - the slower flow is a more even flow. Anyhow, the point is to use either a bla

Regarding removing the thermostat: You use a replacement restriction (blanking sleeve, gutted thermostat) in the system to approximate the original flow pattern, not to change flow rate. The original
