When I bought my BugEye it had 155SR13 radials on it. Using stock rims, what is the optimal tire size for street driving. Also, is there a way to test a transmission out of the car? Thanks, Joe Burru

I would choose 145SR13 for the stock fragile look or 165/70-13 if you want wide tires. Ulix Ulix __/__,__ .......................................................... (_o____o_).... '67 Sprite

I use 165/70 X 13s , I just can't stand those skinny 145/80s anymore.Once you go to 165/70s you will never go back to stock. I wish I knew how to test a tranny out of the car, i have about 8 transmis

I agree. The 185s are very hard to fit. 175/70 might be OK. Funny thing - it actually cornered better with the 145s but the ride is much softer with the bigger tires. Les

Hi Les, This is because you squeezed 185mm(nominal) section width tires onto -realskinny wheels. 185mm is about 7-1/4". How wide are your rims? 3-1/2"? 4"? Even the late style Midget wheels were onl

I have found that 175/60R13 works best. I use either 13x5 or 13x5.5 for this size. The good thing about the 175/60 is that most of the high performance rubber (including R rated tyres) are available

Both wrong. It was 5.20 x 13, I think. The replacement for that on later cars was 145-13. Ulix __/__,__ .......................................................... (_o____o_).... '67 Sprite

I didn't know the originals were 70 series, but for comparison purposes it is good to know that they were 21" tall. I was able to find 165/70 tires, those might be a better choice than 155/80. The 16

The original 145 70 tires are 21" tall. The common replacement 155 80 tires are 22.76" tall, thus "slowing down " your final drive ratio. Does anyone have any gut feel on what this does? Any data? Jo
