- Oh Wise Ones: I spent some time today staring at the nuts/bolts to the lower flange between the manifold and pipe. I'm thinking I'll need a 10" extension and swivel to get those nuts off, and I have

- I didn't need the swivel last week. Just the 10" extention. If you are going to go buy one, sears (craftsman) makes a nice 10" one. It has a little lever that you MUST push to get the socket to come

- I've had better luck with those crows-feet socket adapters. Those are the ones that look like an open-end wrench right next to the 3/8's square socket hole. This gets the extension offset from the nu

- An extension is a definite "must have", not just for this job, but for others down the road (like the horn replacement I just did, for instance). -NORY Don't assume that because you have found one pr

- It happens that I just replaced my B's exhaust system from the manifold back. I used a deepwell socket, a universal, long extension and a breakover bar to get the manifold-to-beadpipe nuts loose (al

- I'd like to add my experience. About two weeks ago, I replaced everything from the downpipe back. The best advice I can give you is to loosen the manifold from the cylinder head. There are one or tw

- Good luck. For this job, I have used a 1/2" drive socket set with a 6" and 12" extension (total 18" for when car is jacked up) and a 6-point deep socket. The ratchet I use has a 16" handle - great f
