Aloha all, Just curious what kind of top speed folks are getting out of their stock TR6's? I can get mine up to 80 but unless I'm going down hill with a tail wind, I don't get much more than that? I'

I spent an hour and a half holding a steady 80-90 across FL this past weekend, no problem. Bone stock, no overdrive. Last time I pushed it, 106 was about it, might have squeezed 110. Craig, '76 Aloha

with the o/d on, I can comfortably cruise at around 90... not often, only on good, open freeways, as I 'worry' about old things failing before I discover they're old and ready to fail... once, only

Back when my car was pretty new (it was in 1976), I was able to reach redline in 4th gear coming out of the small town of (not kidding here) TRiumph, IL. The top was down and there were 2 aboard. I w

Thanks everyone. The concensus seems to be that I have a slow TR6. Many of you have suggested the ignition system may be limiting its ability. Any advice on what specifically to look for? Thanks, Mar

Also make sure the handbrake is releasing all the way. You could be driving around with some resistance from the rear shoes. Easy to check and adjust. Happened to me. I stopped to air up and damned n

Mark--Just about any stock TR six should be capable of exceeding 100 mph. On your '74 that's 4850 rpm, figuring the stock gearing for carbureted cars, or 20.6 mph per 1000 rpm. It is a rare, stock TR

I would add to the list of possibilities that your speedometer might not be calibrated correctly. I had my wife drive along side my TR to verify my indicated speed. I found that my speedo was readin

Unless your tachometer is also "optimistic" (or in your case, pessimistic, for that matter), then possibly determining what RPMs your car tops out at would be more accurate? If you know your axle rat
