to work on your spitfire, you should get one that goes to almost 100 ft-lbs. i don't know why you want to convert ft-lbs to N-m, becasue my haynes manual lists both. however, 1 ft-lb = 2.012 N-m (app

Most torque wrenches have the conversions done for you already. I know mine has the settings on one side in foot-lbs and on the other in Newton-meters. It is a click type. If I still had the manual,

Well, this is continental Europe, everything here is metric. I almost have to mail-order the right tools...at least torque wrenche values can be converted.

I find that I use 1/4 inch sockets with much greater frequency. However I have a 1/2" drive torque wrench and an adapter for 1/4". This setup works fine for me. As far as changing from Nm to Ft-lbs,
