I now know more than I care to about towing requirements for a 1997 Chevy S-10. The standard 2 inch ball that you can put onto the step up bumper will accomodate 200 lbs. tongue weight and 2000 lbs.

I have AAA and have had my 2000 towed at least four times within the last year. They charge if it's more than 3 miles past the city limits of origin, but it usually ends up being about $10 or so. Bet

I had a bar fabricated by a local steel shop that bolts to the bumper mounts, the anti-sway bar towers, and the front frame member. It cost me about $150 to make. I fabricated a prototype out of 1/4"
