Strange, the second sort is what was on the TC I bought in 1956. You could hear the little gears whining as it returned to center. This exact same switch was on both Morris Minors I drove in Canada,

For the turn signals on my TC, I used relays and a simple 3 position toggle switch (center position off). Doesn't return to off after the turn, so I have to remember to turn it off, but it is simple.
