I took my 74 Midget on it's first little drive today after 80% of the rebuild completed. The trany [Rubuilt]is noisey in first gear. It sounds noisey on pull but not on coast. Anyone have any ideas a

Of course, there's noisy, and there's NOISY! My dad and I both have '71s, and in first gear if his tranny sounds like a bumblebee close to your ear, mine would be having your head stuck up the back o

I have a question about the transmission in my '69 Midget. When I put the car back on the road a month or two ago the clutch slave was rusted so I replace the clutch master & slave cylinders & the fl

It seems like different slaves used different rods. Search the archives for slave rod or pushrod and see what pops up.

Hey Derf, Thanks for the tip. I'll search and see what comes up. I did check the new pushrod against the original when I installed it and they are the same length. The slave looks to be the same as t

Hi Robert, It does sound like your clutch is not fully disengaging, but I suspect mechanical problem rather than hydraulic. Slight excess play in the pivots of the slave pushrod, clutch arm, and mast

Might sound crazy, but years ago before my 5-speed swap I had a similar problem. After doing everything that John suggests I found that the release lever was actually bent toward the rear of the car

Hey Jack, Doesn't sound too crazy to me. I checked the pushrod last night when I got home from work and I can easily push it further into the slave before I hit the piston. I don't know if the releas

Hi John, Swapped both the slave and master. Before I did the swap the slave was rusted and wouldn't move. 5 years ago when the car was parked it worked fine. Robert Weeks Bahama, NC

I doubt if anything is bent, since it was working ok. Assuming you have the correct diameter master and slave the travel should be adequate. So there could still be air in the line. Or there could b

Try pumping it up, if it goes into gear with a few pumps, it's air in the line. A quick fix (temp) for a short slave rod is to put a 5/16 nylock or round headed nut on the end of the rod. and see it
