Previously I asked the lkist for assistance in calculating the overall gearing of a TR6. The question stemmed from the fact that the TR6 I recently purchased had 185/65 tyres on it. Got a number of r

A small problem here. The '80' in 185/80 does not make the width 148mm. The '80' is the ratio (as a percentage) of sidewall height to the tread width. So the width of a 185/80/15 is ABOUT 185 mm and

Am I wrong in assuming that the TR6 was supplied with 185SR-15 tires, rather than 185/80-15s? I thought that SR tires (sport radials...) had a smaller diameter than "normal" tires. At least, that's w

From what I have heard/read, no number means "80". So 185xx-15 == 185/80-15 -- Trevor Boicey, Ottawa, Canada. tboicey@brit.ca, http://www.brit.ca/~tboicey/ [ Seeking some miscellaneous MG parts, see

Dunlop makes a nice 165SR-15 for less than $50. I put them on my MGTF in '89 and the 60TR3 in '95. Try the "Tire Rack" at 888.371.8473 if you can't find them locally. Ed Woods --Original Message-- Fr

Malcolm, you should be able to find 165/15's (even steel belted) fairly easily. Both Michelin and Dunlop still make them. My experience is that they are still used by several modern cars. I paid no m

An easy to find size is the 185/86/15. Stock size for VW Bugs, and almost everybody makes one. It is about .3 inches taller (I think) then the original. The last time I got a set they ran about $33 e
