Scott, have you done a compression test on the engine? When I bought the 1980 MGB I'm going to drive for the first time tonight (I hope), it also smoked from the breather (as well as everywhere else)

Yep. Nothing nasty. One cylinder down a bit, but no mayonaise or cooling problems. The head was swapped, recon'd, skimmed, painted, ground in, etc etc etc and fitted with a new gasket about 6 months

Look, "sealing" the filler cap is not the issue. If it's actively blowing oil out the filler cap (or the dipstick tube, or anywhere), you have a crankcase pressurization problem, not an "oil leak". S
