- Scott, have you done a compression test on the engine? When I bought the 1980 MGB I'm going to drive for the first time tonight (I hope), it also smoked from the breather (as well as everywhere else)

- Yep. Nothing nasty. One cylinder down a bit, but no mayonaise or cooling problems. The head was swapped, recon'd, skimmed, painted, ground in, etc etc etc and fitted with a new gasket about 6 months

- Look, "sealing" the filler cap is not the issue. If it's actively blowing oil out the filler cap (or the dipstick tube, or anywhere), you have a crankcase pressurization problem, not an "oil leak". S
