The only reason people are having solenoid problems is because they are trying to flog the last mile out of 40 year old solenoids. Just put a new one on, and it'll work fine for another 20 years or

They're not especially cheap, but they are readily available. John Esposito was selling some new A-type solenoids cheap on eBay a few years back, I think I paid him $85 each. They list for around $1
