I agree with Paul. I resolved this same problem on my ZS equipped '77 by re-installing the heat shield that the PO had removed. It's very expensive for what it is, but well worth it... Barry Waterlan

Vapour lock *can* occur on HSs but only in the tube between float chamber and jet. Pressure can't build in the float chamber to keep the float valve closed as there are two routes open to atmosphere

My first thought was to check the heat shield under the carbs. But your symptoms may also indicate your car is running too rich (thus flooding under warm/hot conditions) rather than being a vapor loc
