I don't want to add to the water pump confusion, but there were 2 different pumps on the 5 main bearing engine. One has a longer nose and pump shaft, than the other. The two will bolt up correctly,

I thought this would have been sorted by now The MGB 5 main and 3 main water pumps are NOT interchangeable- the differences in castings will not allow them to be mounted. I learned this about 5 years
