There are some good books out there, but nothing can substitute for taking a Check out your local community colleges or trade schools. I took an arc welding class at one a while back and it was great

and I think one of the best commercially-available books on welding is that one they carry in the home depot (there's only one book I've seen all home depots carry). You can find it in their tool cri

My suggestion would be to take a class at a local community college. Will give you the oppertunity to try different types of welding, pick the instructors mind as to what type might be best for your
