Sorry to be so ignorant, but my curiosity is piqued. The only torque plate I am familiar with holds the brake assembly to a landing gear strut, but I gather this kind has to do with cylinder honing?

A torque plate is a big chunk of metal that approximates a cylinder head. basically, when a head is torqued down on a block the stresses are such that the bores are a slightly different shape compar

Like they used to say on Rowan and Martin, "Veerrrry interesting !" Besides the holes for the studs to torque the "torque plate" down, are there any other holes in the plate to facilitate the honing

Here's a picture of a Torque plate used on a V-8 engine. There are holes for the cylinders as well as the head stud / bolt holes. So, it can be bored from above. http://www.goodson.com/g5-bin/client.

Once you cut the holes in the head to be able to get to the cylinder bores, I don't think there would be enough structural integrity left for it to be of much help. Joe(B) like there motors in from !

I was concerned about cyls #1 and #6, so asked Wally Hicks if I should use a torque plate on my TR6. He did not seem to think I would need it with the moderate engine (CR 10.5:1) I am building. Shane

Torque plates are like lawyers and nuclear weapons. If you've got one, your constantly tempted to use it. They're a race engine prep tool for building engines that don't have time to wear in. the pur
