If you're really set on leaving the engine in the car, it won't be easy to get to all 5 main bearings. The rear one requires unbolting the transmission, the front requires unbolting the timing cover

Is that "penny test" of any value in evaluating the crank surfaces on an old LBC (not for roundness, but for surface regularity) ? That is, you try to score the bearing surface with the edge of a cop
