In my experience, that stamped number is offset, not backspacing. I expect you have 7.5" wide wheels, if you have 120mm (4.75") backspace and 12mm of negative offset; or 9.5" wide wheels (unlikely o

120mm = about 4.7" backspace and that sounds about right for a FWD car. My Golf GTi's stock wheels have 4.75" backspace so yours is not out of line. FWD cars tend to have more backspace than RWD cars

I see no problem with your measurement as the Escort is a front driver which usually require wheels with a lot of backspace. Of course if the rims were 5'' wide then I'd be suspicious! FWIW: My 64 Ch
