Steam is normal on cold damp days. Bring the engine up to normal operating temp. If it is coolant that is burning, you can smell it in the exhaust, kind of like sweet burnt smell. -- Frank Clarici Se

Probably just condensation in the exhaust. If it lasts for more than 15 minutes of moderate speed driving - then maybe a head gasket or a crack. Les
