Looking at the books, parts catalogues, etc... On '67 Sprites onward there is a rod and brackets holding the top of the windshield frame to the scuttle. On the '65 Sprite there is no rod etc. holding

The main purpose of the rod (as I understand it besides being a convenient place to hang a vertically adjustable rear view mirror) was to prevent (weathered tops shrink over time) top from "pulling"
