Rick Try a little dish soap on the rubbers. If they are UK made they should be a bit tough but will fit perfectly once you get them in the hole. If they are Taiwan made, throw them out! They just are

You can also use a silicon lubricating compound, such as "Sil-Glyde", on the grommet to make it easier to install. It makes them a little slippery to handle but not only is it easy er to install it
