I did this conversion about 20 yrs ago on my Bugeye with the help of racer Stan Huntley of FASPEC. His advice was to use the later (stronger) spridget wire wheel axles from the 1275 cars. Knock out t

I think I just learned something here. Where do you get a Welch Plug? Never heard of one before, but when I assembled a NOS axle and NOS hub for my car last week, I didn't use one. Never dawned on me

In this instance, a welch plug is a circular flat piece of metal with a slight dome to the middle. It fits inside the splined wire wheel hub outboard of the end of the axle shaft. You install it by

You can get all sizes of welch plugs from NAPA. The early spitfires and sprites use welch plugs for freeze (core) plugs on the motors instead of the cup type plugs. After much looking for the plugs
