Scott: If it's a thin guage black wire that has multiple round lugs on it, it is a ground for the instruments. Each of the lugs should be attatched to the mounting studs on the back of the instrument

Ray and Scott, There is also a larger wire with a larger ring that actually connects to the chassis ground, making all those other traveling spaghetti tubes complete the circuit. Steve -- Steve Laifm
