I did a little more research on this question. Several helpful people gave me some filters that are used and I cross-referenced them to Wix (they have the reputation for outstanding quality) filters.

There's already a bypass valve built into the filter head, so having one in the filter doesn't really add anything except another potential failure point. Randall
