I did not get the planned work done this weekend on my 'B. I was going to change diff thrust washers and write up a report on that, but, on getting to my workspace, I found I had failed to bring that

<<SNIP>> So Keith, how DID you compress the old springs? I removed the springs on my '72 to replace the A-arms, and none of the spring compressors I could find could be maneuvered into the available

Even with a high quality spring compressor I always feel like I'm carrying a bomb when I deal with coil springs. This is how I compress MGB coil springs: Find a coil spring compressor that'll fit ins

There's an easier way, according to Haynes! When I removed my springs from a '77 and a '74, I used this method with no ill effects. Simply place a floor jack under the spring pan and jack the car up

Maybe it's a chrome bumper/rubber bumper thing, but I found that on my '72, placing a jack under the spring pan does nothing but lift that corner of the car off the ground. The spring hardly compres

It's either a socio-economic car thing that I wouldn't understand or saggy springs...I'll opt for saggy springs. 8-) Seriously though, my cars did lift off of the ground, but the spring did compress.

It;s not neccessary to completely compress the springs to remove them with this method. Place the car on jackstands, securely. With the weight of the car on the stands, place a floor jack under the s

I used this method, with the same misgivings, and it worked a treat and didn't take hardly any time at all! Regards, Michael. = springs from a = floor jack = should be safely = out of the way = out

My $.02: I used the same method as others mentioned except I ran a length of chain around the coil sping to the crossmember to act as a safety link in case things let loose. As far as installing the

I would add one one thing. When using the jack method rap a length of chain or cable around a coiand attach the other end to the frame. If anything should go wrong the spring will not fly out at you.

It sounds like maybe you raised the car too high. Try this, rasie the car only slightly, no where near lifting the tires. Then unbolt the top folcrum pin from the shock arm. Lower the arm of the swiv

That's pretty interesting cuz on my '69 B, a floor jack under the spring pan was able to compress the old/new/left/right springs really easily, *without* a 235-lb man! :-) I would guess that maybe s
