I don't know the exact size, but gutter spike furrels seem to work pretty good. You know, those tubes for the nails in gutters. Available in all kinds of colors these days too ;) Aluminum, won't rust

According to my trusty Stanley 16' tape, the tube is 3 & 11/16 inches long. Measured by hooking the tape end on the edge of the tube... Kent 1960 Bugeye 1978 Midget "Drippy" (How's that for a name?)
