Ignition light glowing dimly with a load e.g. headlights is usually a symptom of one or more of the diodes in the alternator having failed. Some diodes affect charging more than others. A 1970 model

Paul - and List - Maybe it is ...absolutely stupid... but I can duck that one 'cause I'm not the one who did it. At any rate, the offending diode is no longer there. But even then I ask why, when th

As one who had put a diode in the line, when properly installed, it works fine and so does the charging light and the charging system. what it cures is a leaky or shorted diode in the regulator, whic

Allen, if the B is a 77 then the diode was probably put inline to stop the car from running on after the key was removed. ...Art

If you had a diode and the warning light came on as you turned on the ignition and the diode stopped the warning light glowing when a load was switched on, then that indicates the voltage was higher

the diode is something like 100 piv 1 amp, and put in line with the banded end toward the alternator. in the brown yellow lamp indicator wire directly at the alternator, you can crimp some connectors

Remember the alternator is meant to show both undercharging (dead alternator) and overcharging (faulty voltage reg). Won't adding a diode into the circuit defeat this? I would be sure that what you a
