In what way are you 'going through' them? How are you verifying that each new alt is charging the battery? How are you verifying the alt is no longer charging? Are they being independantly tested e.g

Check the brushes: 1 for wear 2 if they are able to move freely. replace them and clean everything! It helped with me - made the brushes moving again and the alt. still is working fine. Cheers, Hans

Hi James, Try if the brushes are not stuck into their shafts. I had the same problem and it went away after I cleaned the brushes and made these moving freely in their housing. Cheers, Hans '71 BGT -

Had a '72 BGT fitted with Delco unit (early model with external voltage regulator). Homemade alternator bracket. Overall worked well. Downside. The welds broke on the bracket though easily repaired.
