What you're missing is a mess :) I polished aluminum parts and it was messy, very, very messy. On cast parts you'll need to grind/sand them smooth and then use large buffing wheels on your bench grin

While it is true anodizing adds some thickness I don't think that anodizing manifolds, carb bells and bodies, and valve covers is going to have any effect at all on the tolerances or fit of the parts

Aluminium polishing! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! my personal opinion is that the polishing of aluminium to a chrome like finish is severly detrimental to the heat shedding capacity of any part on any motor.
