things seem a little slow on the 'net today so I thought I might ask if anyone has DIY tips for this subject . I was going to try a sanding drum on a dremel followed with some mother's mag polish. th

I think you're better off rotating the wheel past the abrasive, rather than trying to get a smooth surface with a dremel tool or such. Charlie Davis

I did a similar thing and simply bolted the bare wheel (no tire) onto the drive axle while the car was on jack stands. I then let the engine idle in top gear and held a sanding block to the wheel. It
