In days of old I've painted a couple of cars with a hobby-quality gun, and got good results. But the paint was lacquer and dried immediately, before any dust or bugs found their way onto the surface.

Lee, Yes, check and see if you can't still get acrylic enamel in your area. That's easy to spray. It may leave some orange peel. How smooth do you want it, and how much work are you willing to put in

I painted a car in Acrylic Enamel without the hardener. It works and looks fine, but it took two weeks to dry enough to even assemble the trim. Fine for a car, I just closed up the garage and forgot

Dishwashers usually have a removable (often reversible) panel on the door. Loosen the screws holding the trim & you should be able to slide it out. Maybe the color you want is already there? Otherwis
